The study was conducted to see the anti-diarrhoeal effect of aqueous and alcoholic extracts of Triphala by employing castor oil-induced-diarrhoeal model in rats. The results showed that Triphala has a very potent anti-diarrhoeal effect. One of the ingredients, Terminalia chebula, of Triphala is also well documented for gastric motility. Study on the Emblica officinalis, which is another ingredient of Triphala, showed that it has a gastro-protective effect.  One clinical study of Triphala suggests that it can be used effectively in the treatment of constipation and other gastric problems.
