| Holarrhena antidysenterica is native of tropical Himalayas going up to an altitude of 1100 m. Holarrhena antidysenterica is also found from many forest throughout India including Assam, Uttarpradesh and Travancore. Holarrhena antidysenterica is one of the best drugs for chronic diarrhea. It is also found useful in Amoebic Dysentery, Intestinal & extra-intestinal amoebiasis Bacillary Dysentery, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Tropical Spru. The bark has astringent, stomachic, febrifugal and tonic property. |

| Around 30 alkaloids have been isolated from Holarrhena antidysenterica, mostly from the bark. The principle alkaloid is conessine. |

| Bleeding Control and Wound Healing activity: 1 |
| Human trial shows that Holorrhena antidysentrica significantly improves wound healing and controls bleeding when studied in Patients with Bleeding Piles. |

| Antibacterial activity: 2 |
| The alkaloids from H. antidysentrica showed strong antibacterial activity against enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) strains. |
